This article will include a detailed breakdown of the specs and features that the OnePlus 9 series offers. One of the biggest selling points of this year’s OnePlus is the tie-up with leading camera manufacturers Hasselblad. The company has left no stone unturned to promote this partnership and what it means for the camera department. Moreover, now that the e-commerce websites are offering occasional discounts and lucrative offers on the sale of this model, you have all the more reason tobuy the OnePlus 9 series online.

Price and Basic Specifications

The OnePlus 9 comes in at $729 while the beefier OnePlus 9 Pro is available to purchase at $969. Both phones come with the latest Snapdragon 888 Octa-Core processor that is likely the fastest mobile processor on the market. Both phones also run on Android 11. The Pro has a 6.7 inch AMOLED panel, and the OnePlus 9 has a 6.55 inch AMOLED screen sporting snappy colors and a speedy refresh rate of 120hz.

This screen also has a variable refresh rate to save battery when not in heavy usage. Gorilla Glass 5 protects both the back and front of the phone. Both phones also have a 4500 mAh battery that supports fast-charging up to 65 watts. However, the OnePlus 9 only supports 15-watt wireless charging, while the Pro can pump out nearly 50 watts of wireless charging. Both of the phones come in 8 GB and 12 GB models with ROM storage options of 128 GB or 256 GB.

Design

The OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro have a very similar body design with only minor differences. The OnePlus 9 comes with a flat display while the Pro has a curved AMOLED screen. The smooth and minimalist design of the OnePlus 9 Series is consistent with the 8 series from last year. The phones come with an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. Further, they have a punch hole notch in the upper left corner on the screen that sports the front camera.

The camera module is rectangular in shape and rests at the top left corner of the back. There is a slight camera bump and the phone wobbles a little when sitting on its back. The One Plus 9 has three colors, Winter Mist, Astral Black, and Arctic Black. The OnePlus 9 Pro is sold in three colors as well, Morning Mist, Pine Green, and Stellar Black.

Camera

The OnePlus 9 lineup features a 48 MP primary sensor, a 50 MP ultrawide sensor, and a 2 MP monochrome lens. One of the most interesting features this year is OnePlus collaborating with Swedish Camera company Hasselblad to work on its image processing software. Hasselblad has taken extra effort to ensure that the OnePlus 9 phones process the image colors as accurately to reality as possible. Much work has also been done on the ultrawide cameras to remove the circular distortion that is seen in the corners of the image.

Apart from that, the OnePlus 9 overall improves the OnePlus 8 camera performance and can definitely compete with camera giants such as iPhone 12 and Samsung S21. The 2 MP monochrome is useful for taking true black and white images, but practically it is a novelty at best. The OnePlus 9 Pro also features an exclusive 8 MP with 3.3 X zoom capabilities. Both phones share the same 16 MP Selfie camera in front. As for video shooting, both phones can record up to 8K resolution videos at 30 frames per second.

Performance

The OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro sport the super-fast Snapdragon 888. At this range, its primary contenders include the S21, and the Asus ROG Phone 5. The combination of the 8 or 12 GB system RAM makes for a wicked-performing phone. On Geekbench, it scores 3618 points and the Pro scores a slightly higher 3685 points. Apple’s A14 Bionic chip still leads the way in performance with a supreme 3880 points.

Simply, there is no mobile game that can push the OnePlus 9 past its limits and it can easily handle whatever you throw at it. Company executives have also described the OnePlus Cool Play cooling system to keep the system thermals low even during extended hours of gaming. The benefit of this is that the CPU throttles less and sustains its performance, and the phone doesn’t get too hot to hold in the hands. The OnePlus 9 series leaves nothing to be desired in terms of performance.

Software

OnePlus launched its phones with the proprietary Oxygen OS 11 running on top of Android 11. The Oxygen OS is very similar to the stock android experience but has a few useful additions such as gesture controls, theme customization, and UI tweaks. The Oxygen OS 11 gives a huge amount of theme customization with font and trim colors. This software has very aggressive RAM management and quickly kills apps that aren’t being used, to reserve battery and performance. The lightweight software makes the user experience smooth and buttery and no stutters or performance dips are seen.

Concluding our review for the OnePlus 9 series, a few extra tidbits should be noted. The phones come with 5G connectivity right out of the box. The camera system is very capable and can hold its own against some of the best camera phones out there, due to Hasselblad’s contributions. The performance of the phones is no slouch either and it competes at the topmost level. Although the pricing is a little steep compared to historical OnePlus release prices, this just goes to show that OnePlus is approaching closer to flagship giants while cutting as few corners as possible.
